Lansdowne 36 Emerald Warriors 3, Ballycorus Road. 15/11/2008

Ready, Ready, Ready, READY!

What is the world coming to?

First we had Obama, then the trauma of watching the Irish rugby league team outperform their union counterparts, and finally the new world kicked the old ways squarely in the nuts on Saturday when the Emerald Warriors, Irelands rugby representitives for gentlemen with a heightened sense of fashion, came to town!!
It would be one of a number of firsts that day for Ballycorus, at least one would hope it that a female garda stripping to her underwear and whipping a (not so) young man on the bottom was not a regular occurance...

The match itself was a onesided affair, although all the commitment came from the losing team... Lansdowne started perfectly with 2 quick tries from Matt allen and Andy, it seemed that a whitwash was on the cards, but minds turned to Chris's party and the All Blacks game, or rather the pints to be consumed, and the intensity fell. Although the warriors were not allowed into the match, Lansdowne seemed to lose direction for long periods, particularly in the second half. Some good individual performances from Andy Fleming who tried to play all 15 positions on the park, Adam, Matt playing out of position and new boy Robert Moore. Tries came from Chris, another by Adam, Dan O'Brien and a first try for Jeffrey 'alspeedy'. Also we saw the return of our red-headed fullback. "READY, READY, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready........ready, ready, ready, ready, etc...". We also were delighted to see the return of our overseas stalwart Ed the Bruce, sporting more blue strapping than Jeff's tape.

All in all job done, and a very shortened match was greeted by relief from both sides I suspect.... We won't get away with that level of performance again. The things we learn in training are being left there, perhaps we should ask the branch if we can play our matches on Wednesdays at 7 o'clock......
A long day and night followed as we retired to Chris's pied a terre for cocktails as we wondered at the majesty of his japanese crab apple tree... Was I dreaming or was that pilates you were doing? Don't overdo it lads....!
Two killer bees legends in the form of Senan Sexton and Kev McDermott were spotted on the commons rd at about 2.30 both dressed like they were coming from the spring show, looking for a ceili !

Onwards and upwards
