Lansdowne 12 St Marys College 45, Ballycorus Road. 01/11/2008 A CRY OF PILLARS The third international Killer Beez expedition party of the year set out on the long windswept road to Ballycorus, armed only with Mark Dolans laptop bag, 14 rolled up cigarettes, 8 bottles of stagnant water, Brian Corrigans jerseys and a pocketful of dreams. The quest? A win. The pray? One ot the big cats.... Having finally paid back all the money he owed to the NZRU, this would be Matt Allens first outing for the Beez, and the word had got around as a capacity crowd packed the stadium, generously given over to us by the J2s who clearly sensed there would be revolution if the Beez didn't get the top billing... St Marys brought a young, talented and fearless bunch to the party, but would they have their candles blown out? Would they balls! Marys got out of the traps early, capitalising on Lansdowne mistakes with deadly precision and found themselves three tries up within twenty minutes. Enter captain caveman Chris. After one right tongue lashing later, Lansdowne knuckled down and scored a fine try off the side of a ruck by Matt Allen, followed very quickly by another by man of the match Adam Kavanagh. While Enda Kilcullen and Nick Jones battled manfully, Ross Bloomfield and Tommy Malone kept probing out wide. But the ship was creaking like the Marie Celeste, Charlie Quinn was turning in his tracksuit.... As Marys increased the pressure, the fightback failed to materialise as the lack of basic fitness levels began to show in the teams decisionmaking ability. Perhaps its time to go back to the old "run the sh!t out of them until somebody pukes" days...... Marys were easy victors in the end, there's an old sports saying: "don't pray when it rains if you don't pray when the sun shines", no point in moaning if we didn't do enough to prevent it. Pressure is now officially on. Next match, its mardi gras time, The Emerald Warriors are coming to town! PS: good to see one of the clubs favourite sons, Will Sparks, has inherited the Lansdowne lip! Perhaps we'll make him wear a zip-up gimp mask for the next match....;-) Man of the match: Adam Kavanagh. written by Philip McGoldrick Team 1: Chris Reid (c)2: Kevin McDermot 3: Peter Geoghegan 4: Patrick Malone 5: Enda Kilcullen 6: Adam Kavanagh 7: Conor Gahan 8: Nick Jones 9: Matt Allen 10: Daniel O'Brian 11: Jeff Iszeham 12: Eoin Gantly 13: Ross Bloomfield 14: Will Sparks 15:Tommy Malone Subs: Rory Gavin, Milan Alonso, Ronan Gibney and Gearoid Carvill Match photos below - (taken by Ed Bruce) |
